Biography

Martina Angenendt (née Gruber) was born in 1992 in Steyr, Upper Austria, and showed her musical talent already at an early age. She received her first guitar lessons at the age of eight from Roswitha Leidl in Ternberg. In addition to soloist training, chamber music was also a major focus of her education. When she was only 14 years old and still at school, she was accepted as a young student at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz, where she studied with Prof. Michael Langer and Wolfgang Jungwirth. After graduating from high school, she continued her education there in 2011, in both artistic and pedagogical bachelor's degree. In 2013, as part of the Erasmus program, she was given the opportunity to study in Prof. Olaf Van Gonnissen’s class at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre as an exchange student, where she completed her bachelor’s degree as a scholarship holder from the German Academic Foreign Service. She then studied with Prof. Hans-Werner Huppertz at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in Aachen, where she received the Master of Music with top grade. Master classes and workshops with Aniello Desiderio, Dale Kavanagh, Pavel Steidl and others complete her musical education.

After her first public appearances in a quartet at the age of ten in Ternberg, Martina Angenendt is now a regular guest at concert series and festivals in numerous European countries. She does not only give concerts as a soloist, but also in various chamber music formations, e.g. in a duo with tenor Marcel Oleniecki or guitarist Tristan Angenendt. Audiences and the press alike attest her „creative playing density” and describe her guitar playing as „expressive and precise” or „beautiful to cry on”. Her first CD Silent Moments of Christmas together with tenor Marcel Oleniecki was released by AureaVox in 2020. In May 2023 the first Angenendt Guitar Duo CD Serenade with works by Ferdinando Carulli was released on the same label.

In addition to her concert activities, Martina Angenendt has been successfully involved as a guitar teacher for many years. After initial experience as a private teacher in her hometown Ternberg, she taught at the State Music School in Gunskirchen (Austria ) and as a lecturer for guitar at the Hamburg Conservatory. In addition, she regularly leads workshops and master classes at international guitar festivals. Students from her classes have already won several prizes in competitions. Martina Angenendt currently teaches at the Moers Music School and the Music and Art School of the City of Wesel.

Martina Angenendt plays guitars by Kazuo Sato and C. Claus Voigt with D'Addario strings.
